What are user initiated actions?

Actions are single-event operations which trigger something specific to happen within you ad build.  Any element of the ad may be assigned actions by selecting the element you'd like to set an action on.  Once selected, on the right side properties menu, scroll to the actions section and click the Add Action button to configure the specific event, and its corresponding action.

Adventive includes several options for user initiated actions, below we will discuss each in detail, along with their corresponding configuration settings.  Generally speaking, actions fall into one of several categories: destinations, internal ad navigation, and ad transformations.

Destination Actions

How to add a click through to an ad element

Using the Open URL action, a user can assign Click Through URL to a specific element on the ad build, this is particularly useful when an ad has multiple click throughs such as individual product images.

Assigning an Open URL action to a specific element will always override the ad units default click through URL.

Once selected, enter the URL in the corresponding input box, and select the method in which to open the URL (in a New Tab of the same browser, or in the Same Tab of the browser).

How to initiate a mobile call from an ad element

Using the Call action, a user can assign a phone number to a specific element on the ad build. Assign the desired phone number ensuring that number contains the appropriate country and area code.

How to add an event to a calendar from an ad element

Using the Add to Calendar action, a user can assign a calendar event to a specific element on the ad build. Configure the event name, location, start and end date and times, time zone and calendars you wish to allow the event to be added to.

How to download a file from an ad element

Using the Download File action, a user can assign a download event to a specific element on the ad build. This is particularly useful for ads containing white-papers, or coupons.  Select a PDF file from your computer, and select the method in which to download the file (in a New Tab of the same browser, or in the Same Tab of the browser).

Internal Ad Navigation Actions

How to navigate between screens in an ad unit

In multi screen ads, it is necessary to supply the user with the ability to navigate between screens, in addition to optional automatic navigation based on events that occur in the ad unit.  To configure an element to navigate between screens, select the Go To Screen option.  You are then able to select when the Go To Screen action is fired (most commonly on click), however, this action can be configured on hovering on or off a unit, based on a timer, when the unit is in view, on scroll, or as the result of a mobile swipe, or shake.

Select the destination screen, and the type of transition Slide (the ad content will slide over the top of any content below it), Fade (a fade effect will occur during the transition), or Push (the site content will be pushed down) when transitioning screens (if the destination screen is of a different height than the originating screen). Transition time (default 300ms) sets the amount of time it will take for the entire transition to occur.

How to allow an ad unit to be closed

To allow a viewer to close an ad unit (and permanently remove it from the webpage), select the Close Ad option.  The only action on event allow for this action is Click.
